Tractor Trailers Carry New Belmont Road Bridge Girders to Construction Site

A tractor trailer carries one of the nine concrete girders to the construction site where crews will install it on the portion of the new Belmont Road bridge over I-85 North in Davidson County.

The girders will form the support structure for the part of the bridge that vehicles will drive eventually on.

Crews Work at Night to Install Beams for New I-85 North Bridge over Yadkin River

Crews are in the process of installing concrete girders on the new I-85 North bridge over the Yadkin River in Davidson and Rowan counties. The
girders will form the base for the part of the bridge on which vehicles will drive.

Each girder is 139 feet long, 77 inches tall and weighs about 80 tons. A 230-ton crane lifts the girders high into the air, sets them on top of the bridge’s support columns and bolts them into place.
